Brief History of Philippine Federation of Professional Radiologic Technologists, Inc
In December 1993, at the height of the increasing popularity of thePhilippine Society of Government Radiologic Technologists (PSGRT), there was a move initiated by Dr. Jaime Tomas Jr. for the PSGRT‚ and the Philippine Association of Radiologic Technologists (PART) to talk together in the presence of the Board of Radiologic Technology (BORT), Philippine College of Radiology (PCR) and Continuing Professional Education Council (CPEC).
The main objective of the meeting was the integration of the two organizations. Both PSGRT and PART later on agreed to meet again and this resulted to the PSGRT submitting its proposals to the PART. Months passed by, the BORT learned that the PART was not acting on the PSGRT’s proposals. The BORT then, with Dr. Jose Gaffud initiating, convened representatives from both parties. A body, which was composed of Dr. Evelyn Tejada, Luis Ibarra, Reynaldo Tisado, Santos Ragaza, Dolores Pambid, Greg Gallardo, Nilo Villanueva, and Nelly Vargas, were instructed to draft a constitution and by-laws of integration.
The proposed constitution was submitted to the BORT and PART, being the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) accredited association. The PART again did not act on the matter and this resulted into the PSGRT officers taking the challenge of organizing an integrated organization. They were joined by their colleagues from the academe and private sector and this paved way for the establishment of the Philippine Federation of Professional Radiologic Technologists, Inc.‚ sometime in December, 1994.
The PFPRT, a SEC registered organization, was composed of 3 sectoral organizations namely the PSGRT (Phil. Society of Government Radiologic Technologists.), SPERT (Society of Privately Employed Radiologic Technologists), and PSRTP (Phil. Society of Radiologic Technology Professors). It has also specialty groups as members such as the; League of Chief Radiologic Technologists, Ultrasonographers League of the Phil., League of Radiologic Technologists in Radiotherapy and League of Radiologic Technologists in CT-MRI & Nuclear Imaging.
With its concept of empowering the technologists to take part and have the say in their respective area of specialty, more and more are drawn into the Federation and this alone is another breakthrough in Philippine Radiologic Technology, as we approach another decade since the discovery of x-rays.
