Position of Patient

A mark may be made on cheek at a point ½ inch anterior to and 1 inch inferior to the EAM.
The patient may be placed in a prone or may be seated before a VGD.

Position of Part

Center the marked localization point to the cassette and placed the affected side of the head in lateral position. Adjust the patient’s head so that the MSP is parallel with and the IPL is perpendicular to the plane of the film.

Central Ray

Direct the central ray to the midpoint of the film at an angle 25 or 30 degrees caudad. It enters the upper parietal region and passes through the lower TMJ.

Evaluation Criteria

• Temporomandibular articulation should be clearly visualized lying anterior to the EAM.
• Condyle should lie in the mandibular fossa.
