The Basics of Radiation Protection
Radiation protection, sometimes known as radiological protection, is the science of protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of both particle radiation and ionizing radiation. It includes occupational radiation protection, which is the protection of workpeople; medical radiation protection, which is the protection of patients; and public radiation protection, which is about protection of individual members of the public, and of the population as a whole. There are main three principles to radiation protection: those of time, distance and shielding. Radiation exposure can be managed by one or more of these: Reducing the time of an exposure reduces Click Here To Read More
MRI Reveals The Best Sitting Position
Sitting up straight is not the best position for office workers, a study has suggested. Scottish and Canadian researchers used a new form of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to show it places an unnecessary strain on your back. They told the Radiological Society of North America that the best position in which to sit at your desk is leaning slightly back, at about 135 degrees. Experts said sitting was known to contribute to lower back pain. Data from the British Chiropractic Association says 32% of the population spends more than 10 hours a day seated. The Story Behind Repeat X-ray Exposures
Patients in developing countries often need to have X-ray examinations repeated so that doctors have the image quality they need for useful medical diagnosis, the IAEA is learning. The findings come from a survey involving thousands of patients in 45 hospitals and 12 countries of Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. Poor image quality constitutes a major source of unnecessary radiation to patients in developing countries,” emphasizes Dr. Madan Rehani of the IAEA Division of Radiation, Waste and Transport Safety, which carried out the survey under technical cooperation (TC) projects of the IAEA. “Fortunately, were moving forward to help countries improve Click Here To Read More
